Root Canal

When tooth decay begins to affect the nerve of the tooth it can cause the tooth to die. When this happens we need to remove the damaged or infected nerve to prevent any infections.

If you have a tooth infection, the Dentist may need to  remove the nerve.
If an infected nerve is left untreated, it can result in a dental infection which is highly infectious, it can spread quickly to the jaw and sometimes to the rest of your body. There are instances where this infection can become a LIFE Threatening situation.

Some signs include swelling of your gums, your cheek or your face. Antibiotics can settle these infections temporarily, but if left alone they will continue to do permanent damage to not only your teeth and gums but to your health.

It is highly recommended you book in to see a dentist as soon as possible.

We use a root canal therapy to remove the nerve to preserve your tooth. Whilst removing any pain and discomfort, root canal allows you to keep the tooth for the long run.

When we complete a root canal the tooth will require a crown to strengthen the remaining tooth and to allow the maximum longevity of the tooth.

What can you expect with a Root Canal at SIA Dental Burwood?

Root canals require several visits.

  • The dentist opens the infected tooth front from the top.
  • The infected nerve is flushed and removed by using dental grade disinfectants and the latest dental instruments which clean your teeth’s canals using microscopes.
  • The root canal is then sealed using a high quality dental material.
  • A temporary filling is placed on top of the tooth to cover and protect the root.

As the nerve has been removed the teeth is naturally weakened, we highly recommended using a crown to protect it for the long run.

What are my other options than a Root Canal?

  • The other fix is taking the tooth out. Unfortunately this leave a gap. This can be fixed by our dentists by using a bridge, implant or a removal denture.
  • Ignoring the tooth. We highly recommend against this as this usually results in a severe infection and pain. This infection can spread very quickly to the rest of the body and cause severe life threatening effects.
